HUNDREDS of people gathered to farewell Joel Brimble who was one of four young people killed after a two-car collision in Lynbrook on 28 June.
The funeral service for the former Narre Warren South P-12 College student was held at Tobin Brothers Funerals in Berwick on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old’s father, Chris, spoke about the love his son had for his family.
“The emotional side of Joel came out when he was having a few drinks at home one time. He grabbed me, hugged me for about 30 seconds and said he loved me,” he said.
“For about 30 minutes after I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. No-one knows why this has happened. I love you and I’ll see you when I see you.”
Family and friends described Joel as a passionate man with a heart of gold.
“He was adventurous, loved computers and was fiercely protective of his siblings.”
According to friends, Joel also loved to dance and often dubbed himself as a great shuffler.
“They say only the good die young. Joel, you’ll never be forgotten.”
Joel’s sister spoke about the feelings of never seeing her beloved brother again.
“The one thing you taught me Joel was to always be strong,” she said.
During the service Joel’s parents expressed their sorrow to the families of the other youths who died in the collision.
Photographs and memories of Joel’s life were shown while the song Forever Young by Youth Group was played.
The community continues to mourn the loss of the four young lives.
A friend of Joel’s, Danielle Mullins, has pleaded to her local member of parliament for funding to upgrade the intersection where the tragedy occurred.
She also suggested driver education programs be compulsory in schools.
Narre Warren’s Youth Girls football side remembered former player Riyani Lowen with a minute’s silence at Casey Fields on Saturday morning.
The 16-year-old was also killed in the collision 11 days ago.
Narre Warren’s weekend opponent, Hallam, also took part in the minute’s silence for the Year 10 Narre Warren South P-12 student before the match.
