VOLUNTEERS braved the cold weather to run the race for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Around 30 people signed up for the Run Melbourne event, which took place on Sunday 28 June, and raised more than $8000 for the Hallam based local mentoring program.
The organisation provides support for vulnerable and disadvantaged children who are lacking a positive adult role model in their lives.
Team leader Rebecca Wolstenholme told the News Big Brothers Big Sisters was looking for people in the community wanting to lend a helping hand in the fund-raising and promotions team.
“We have a steady flow of volunteers wanting to become Big Brothers and Big Sisters, but have a real need now to build a network of volunteers who can help us support the work through organising and assisting with fund-raising events,” she said.
“We are totally dependent on donations to keep the organisation going and our capacity to meet the high demand for our services is limited only by lack of funds.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters have various events scheduled throughout the year, ranging from a community ball to intersection collections, fun runs and business dinners.
A new 24-hour volunteer hotline has been set up for people to call for more information.
