THE artists within were revealed at the opening of Timbarra Primary School’s art show The Gallery.
Grade 5 students were given the opportunity to show off their creations, with staff at the Berwick school recreating an authentic-looking gallery complete with an official ribbon cutting, ‘security’ and music to set the ambience.
Linda Duncanson, assistant principal, said the children had been working on their artwork all term.
“The students have been learning for the past 9-10 weeks about famous artists and artistic movements.
“We really tried to make it special for the children and re-create the experience of being in a real gallery,” Ms Duncanson said.
A visit to the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Bulleen during the term helped the children with some further knowledge and inspiration for their paintings.
Parents, grandparents, past teachers and staff from Heide Museum all received gold invitations for the event, and were present to support the children with their masterpieces.
Timbarra’s Grade 6 students have the difficult task of choosing the winners of the art show which will see their pieces framed and displayed at the school.
Ms Duncanson said “The Gallery” was the outcome of one of the most successful areas of study for the school and the students now had a greater interest in and appreciation of art.
