CASEY mayor Geoff Ablett is keeping residents informed about the likely effects of climate change on the local environment.
Cr Ablett recently took part in the videoing of a DVD for the Department of Climate Change in Tooradin.
Mayors from councils across Australia who have shown initiative in planning for and adapting to climate change are featured in the DVD.
“The City of Casey is pro-actively working towards identifying the likely effects of climate change on the local area, and is currently implementing strategies to mitigate these unavoidable climate changes,” Cr Ablett said.
The City of Casey has developed a climate change task force, which has been developing ways to protect the council’s infrastructure and the community.
The task force is working on plans for a community and council education and engagement program.
A booklet identifying the local risk of climate change is currently being developed.
