CASEY councillors and members from the Oakgrove Community Centre’s committee of management met this week after news that Casey council could soon be investigating operations at the centre.
Springfield Ward councillors Sam Aziz and Lorraine Wreford, a senior manager from the council, and members from the centre’s committee met on Tuesday at the council offices.
Cr Aziz called for the council officers to report back to the council by 15 September following claims a three-year-old girl was pulled out of a playgroup because her parents were late in paying $7 worth of fees.
Cr Aziz said this week’s meeting, which went for about an hour, was organised at the centre’s request.
“The committee now understands that the proposing review will benefit the community that the centre serves and they understand they need to work alongside the council,” Cr Aziz said.
Cr Aziz said he also made it clear to the committee that the issue surrounded the child being ejected from the centre over a $7 fee was not acceptable.
President of the Oakgrove Community Centre Harry Naidu described the meeting as positive, saying the groups had agreed to work together.
