A learner driver from Hampton Park learnt the hard way last week after running from the scene of a collision involving his Toyota Hilux.
It is alleged the 19-year-old lost control of his vehicle on Manatoka Crescent, Hampton Park, colliding with a tree, meter box and rubbish bin causing a mess and serious damage to his vehicle, police say.
According to Police, it is alleged he was driving a friend home after a night of drinking and placed his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake.
Police officers from Cranbourne visited the driver at his home address and with the assistance of Highway Patrol and conducted an evidentiary breath test at the collision scene.
The driver returned an evidentiary breath test reading of 0.098 which exceeds the limit of 0.00 for a learner driver.
The driver immediately lost his permit for six months and will be visiting the magistrate in the near future with several charges including drink driving, careless driving, being unaccompanied as a learner driver, failure to display L plates and failure to remain at the scene of a collision.
