Upgrade to Western Port Highway intersection

Preparatory works on the Western Port Highway have been fast-tracked, with hopes the construction of new, wider intersections will be completed several months earlier than the original “end of 2022” completion date.

From 7pm on Wednesday 16 March to 5am on Monday 4 April both the Ballarto Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road intersections with the Western Port Highway will be closed.

The Highway itself will also be closed between the two intersections, with detours in place.

The closure will allow for 24/7 “critical works”on the intersections, including removing the existing road surface, excavating the road reserve to accommodate extra turning lanes, and laying temporary asphalt and line markings.

The project is part of a Major Road Projects Victoria plan to replace the roundabouts at the intersection with traffic lights to “better manage traffic flow on and off Western Port Highway.”

During the works, detours will be in place via South Gippsland Highway and Peninsula Link, as well as Potts and Pearcedale Road for local traffic.

Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected throughout the closure, with drivers encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

The route 791 bus service will continue to run throughout the works, but the two bus stops on the west side of Cranbourne-Frankston Road and Western Port Highway intersection will be closed.

Bus-goers can instead use the bus stops near Woodlands Road, Lyppards Road or Kelvin Grove.
