THE local State League Two South East derby between Dandenong City and Heatherton United turned into a slaughter on Saturday, with City smashing United 5-1.
It was a brutal display from the Endeavour Hills-based club, finding the back of the net four times in the second half after leading 1-0 at the break.
Zoran Tudor struck twice and Stipo Andrijasevic, Ivan Klarica and Kevin Townson all found the net once in the blitz, while for Heatherton Ali Saleh scored the side’s lone goal.
Needless to say, Dandenong City coach Ivan Duzel was impressed after the game.
“It was an excellent performance by the team, it was the best game for the season,” he said. “From the start of the game we were on top of the team, we should’ve scored a couple more.”
The coach heaped praise on the younger players in his squad, saying they were coming along in each game.
The result all but ended Heatherton’s already slim chance of winning the minor premiership, though a third-place finish is still within reach.
Elsewhere, the Casey Comets are one step closer to holding on to their spot in League Two South East after recording a 1-1 draw with Diamond Valley United.
Tony Saunders’ charges came back from a goal down at half-time with Dean Schembri slotting the equaliser and the side was unlucky not to claim all three points.
The draw means Casey is now four points clear of South Springvale and the relegation zone, with four rounds remaining.
In State League Three South East, Berwick City went down 2-1 to Nunawading City, but with second-placed Southern Suburbs recording a 0-0 draw and third-placed Noble Park going down to Peninsula, City managed to hold on to top spot on the ladder.
Meanwhile, Doveton lost 2-1 to Old Camberwell Grammar in Provisional League One South East and Endeavour United went down 2-0 to Ashburton.
