Heavy rainfall hits local roads

Several roads across the City of Casey remain closed due to flooding today, as heavy rainfall and flooding continues to sweep across the state.

Figures from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) show Berwick received half its average monthly rainfall in the 24 hours to 9am 14 October, recording 34 mm of rain.

Local roads have been struggling to withstand the floodwaters, leading to the closure of several arterial roads.

Berwick-Cranbourne Road is closed for road damage between Linsell Boulevard and Clyde Five-Ways Road in Clyde, first appearing on the Vic Traffic website about 10:45pm on 13 October.

A stretch of nearby Thompsons Road is also closed due to flooding between Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.

According to the Vic Traffic website, flooding on the road was first reported around 6pm on 13 October.

A second stretch of Thompsons Road in Sandhurst is also closed due to flooding, between the Western Port Highway and McCormicks Road.

Grices Road between Berwick – Cranbourne Road and Viewgrand Drive also succumbed to the heavy rainfall, with motorists encouraged to use O’Shea Road instead.

Around 2pm on Friday afternoon flood water began impacting Hallam Road in both directions near Hallam Station. Vic Traffic suggests motorists avoid the area and use Pound Road, the South Gippsland Freeway and the Princes Highway.

Heatherton Road, Doveton is blocked in both directions between the Monash Freeway and Stud Road due to flooding.
