A multi-million dollar upgrade is on the cards for Berwick City FC, if the Liberals win the State election in November.

On Tuesday 11 October the Liberal-National coalition pledged $2.75 million towards pitch upgrades for Berwick City FC, which hosts more than 700 registered players and has 4000 active club members.

The current soccer pitches at Jack Thomas Reserve in Narre Warren North are surfaced with the incorrect type of grass, on top of a poorly designed drainage system, which means the pitches are hazardous in wet weather and results in cancellation of games and training.

The funding will provide pitch upgrades including the installation of two new synthetic pitch surfaces and works to improve drainage.

One of the club’s pitches is unusable in its current condition, and upgrading its surface will deliver the club additional playing space.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish, said this was a major commitment to the ongoing growth of soccer in the area.

“The club has deep links right across the community and today’s announcement supports its engagement across the community”

Liberal Candidate for Narre Warren North, Timothy Dragan, welcomed the increased interest in soccer across the region.

“We encourage participation growth in community sport and only the Liberals and Nationals will support grassroots sport into the future.”
