Wild winds

From 4pm on Tuesday night, as the winds reached more than 100km/h, the crews received around 50 calls for assistance in Casey, with the hot spots being Berwick, Narre Warren and Cranbourne.
Acting controller of the Narre Warren SES Tim Howell said most of the calls were primarily for traffic hazards, damage to house roofs and fallen trees across roads and houses.
“A third of the calls were for building damage,” he said.
The Narre Warren SES was still receiving calls yesterday (Wednesday) morning as they braced for more wild weather and winds of between 80km/h and 100km/h.
“Overall the community were very good and made every attempt to make their properties safe,” Mr Howell said.
“The volunteers will be out and about for the next couple of days tidying up,” he said.
Local residents are being urged by the SES to keep children indoors if strong winds are about and to also keep pets indoors during strong storm activity.
