ANOTHER set of traffic lights may be installed on Clyde Road, Berwick, in an effort to ease traffic congestion on the bottleneck.
After a successful campaign for traffic lights at the intersection of Clyde Road and Enterprise Avenue, Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley has now has her sight set on lights for the Clyde and Centre Road intersection.
Speaking in Parliament recently, Ms Graley called on Minister for Roads and Ports, Tim Pallas, to request that VicRoads install traffic signals at the intersection.
Ms Graley said a population and development boom had seen traffic around the intersection increase. She said the State Government had already taken action on traffic congestion by duplicating Clyde Road, but more needed to be done.
“Clyde Road is a major road in the local area and duplication has made it a very good road to use,” she said
“Some extra safety treatments would add considerably to the traffic comfort and liveability of local community members, especially the mums and dads who are taking their kids to school.”
Ms Graley said that she had been contacted by many residents about traffic congestion, delays and dangerous driving practices associated with long waits at the intersection.
“With the volume of traffic travelling through the intersection of Clyde Road and Centre Road, residents are concerned about the possibility of crashes due to the lack of traffic signals,” she said
“Residents have witnessed many near accidents and believe that vehicles and pedestrians are at constant risk of being involved in an accident.”
Ms Graley said that she would continue to advocate for the traffic lights.
