Keen

By Lia Bichel
AFTER several years of involvement with the Hallam Senior Citizens Club and Hallam Red Cross, Betty Keen was recognised for her tireless efforts as a volunteer.
Ms Keen received a certificate of recognition after a friend and fellow member of the Red Cross, Jean Read, nominated her for the Senior Citizen of the Year Award. The certificate was signed by Premier John Brumby and Minister for Senior Victorians Lisa Neville. “She does so much work for the community, she never stops,” Ms Read said.
“I thought it was about time she (Ms Keen) got recognised,” she said. She said Ms Keen spent many hours organising fundraising stalls, knitting items for donations and helping people in need. Ms Keen said she was shocked to receive the certificate. “I was flabbergasted. It was nice to know I was appreciated.”
