A BERWICK man who sped past a marked police car told police he did not notice them because he was too busy texting.
The 22-year-old was detected driving at more than 130 km/h along Eastlink in the Mulgrave area on Sunday 10 October.
Following a 28km pursuit, the driver pulled over in Frankston and told the Yarra Ranges TMU he had initially not noticed them as he was texting. The man is expected to be summonsed for numerous traffic offences including driving in a manner dangerous, using a mobile phone while in charge of a vehicle and speeding. Leading Senior Constable Steve McIlroy said he was astounded at the driver’s stupidity.
“People need to understand the distraction caused by texting and other mobile phone usage; otherwise the results can be catastrophic.”
