BUDDING sport enthusiasts battled it out last week at the annual Gleneagles Cup.
More than 500 local primary school students competed in the cup on Friday in round-robin tournaments such as netball, basketball, soccer and volleyball.
About 40 year nine Gleneagles Secondary College students initiated the cup and have run it into its fifth year.
The students spent the past two terms planning the event and gained their level 0 accreditation in coaching and umpiring in a number of sports.
According to teacher Meagan Neil, the students conducted clinics over six weeks at Mossgiel Park Primary School, Southern Cross Primary School, Hallam Primary School, Narre Warren North Primary School, Chalcot Lodge Primary School and Thomas Mitchell Primary School.
She said the Endeavour Hills students were also responsible to umpire and referee the games on the day.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the Gleneagles students and has been a wonderful experience to develop positive working relationships with the local primary schools,” Ms Neil said.
