TWO drivers had a lucky escape last week after a semi trailer overturned on the Monash Freeway in Narre Warren.
The truck and a car were involved in a collision on Thursday near Narre Warren North Road about 10.15am.
Senior Constable Travis Cusack from the Casey Traffic Management Unit said the semi trailer, which was carrying a load of sand, overturned in the smash.
Sen Const Cusack said both drivers were lucky to have survived the crash.
Firefighters from Narre Warren and Hallam spent about four hours cleaning up oil and diesel on the road after the smash, while traffic was diverted off the freeway just before the Narre Warren North exit.
Advanced life support paramedics from Noble Park, intensive care paramedics and a single responder intensive care paramedic were called to the scene.
Intensive care paramedic Russ Nelson said the 31-year-old driver of the truck fractured his shoulder blade and had also possibly fractured his ribs.
“He was given some pain relief through an inhaler, then some stronger pain relief through a drip in his arm,” Mr Nelson said.
“Paramedics also gave him fluid through the drip to help maintain his blood pressure and some drugs to reduce nausea.”
He was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.
The 38-year-old woman from the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Dandenong Hospital.
