PRESIDENT of the Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce Bob Burns has stepped down from the position after almost six years in the hot seat.
Mr Burns told the News one of the reasons he would not be taking on the role of president again was because he couldn’t see a semi-retired aged pensioner running what the chamber hopes will soon be a “business organisation”.
He said the chamber was hoping to transform itself into a business, with the aim of getting funding and developing a substantial business plan.
“The chamber needs some one else to head it up and help it move forward,” he said.
“Someone who is in business or a business owner would be ideal for the job.”
Since 2007, the chamber has seen a re- birth under the leadership of Mr Burns.
“In 2007, we had four members and now we have 46,” he said.
“This time last year we had 24 members.”
Mr Burns said some of his achievements as president of the Narre Warren Chamber of Commerce include gaining a strong committee, pushing Casey City Council to start the Urban Design Framework Plan for the Webb Street precinct and developing the website.
Mr Burns stepped down from the position at the annual general meeting held last night (Wednesday).
