Heroes given quiet

Fountain Gate Secondary College school captain, Corporal Jonathon Cording, 310 ACU Dandenong and young leader Brodie Ryan are hoping for donations for a memorial garden at the school. 40999

FOUNTAIN Gate Secondary College students are appealing for donations for items to feature in the school’s proposed memorial garden.
Staff and students at the school want to establish a memorial garden in the school grounds and apply for funding through the State Government’s restoring community war memorials grants program.
The school has a tradition of remembering Australia’s fallen as part of its annual Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, and is about to link with the Korean Veterans Association.
Staff and students are appealing locally and state-wide for any person or organisation that might be able to donate a suitable item to feature in the school’s proposed garden.
Teacher Wayne Smith said the school was open to suggestions or offers for the donation of monuments or historical artefacts.
“We are seeking a cenotaph or similar or even an old country town street water/horse trough,” he said.
“In someone’s backyard or shed somewhere, there could possibly be something that someone might be willing to donate to a new loving home. We promise to restore the memorial to its former glory and make it the feature of our memorial garden to honour our service heroes who have fought for Australia in the numerous conflicts in our history.”
