Lynbrook juniors poised to strike

By Ben Hope
THE Lynbrook Junior Football Club will make the most of three registration days to attract as many players as possible for their inaugural season with the Dandenong and District Junior Football League.
Club president Andrew King said the Lynbrook juniors will most likely field an under-9 and an under-12 team but anyone up to the age of 17 is invited to join.
“Depending on the response we get from the registration days we would be more than happy to add more teams to meet demand,” King said.
“The under-9 and the under-12s are where the numbers are at this stage but it would be great to get the numbers for more teams.”
King also said the strong demand from Lynbrook Primary School combined with the popularity of the local Auskick program had led to the club’s formation.
“We have had Auskick in the area over the last four years and the number of kids interested in football has increased,” King said.
“Once the kids finished the Auskick program they have had to play for other clubs outside of Lynbrook.”
“They will now have the chance to stay and play for their home team.”
The final design of the uniform of the Lynbrook Lightning has been finalised but the club will hold off on ordering until they have the final player numbers after the registration day.
“The club has adopted the mascot of lightning and as such its nickname will be the ‘Lynbrook Lightning,” King said.
The new oval and pavilion on Paterson Drive will be the home ground for the club.
“We basically have the facility pre-existing for us,” King said. “The grounds don’t have a name as yet but I’m sure once Lynbrook gets a bit older and has a few stalwarts or heroes the ground will get a name.”
The club will hold three registration days to give parents and their children the chance to attend.
The first will be held at Lynbrook Primary School on Friday 5 February at 3.15pm and then at Lynbrook Shopping centre the following morning (9am to noon). The club will again be open for registrations on Sunday 7 February at Lynbrook Primary School Pavilion from noon to 2pm.
