POLICE are warning cyclists to wear helmets after an eight-year-old girl riding a bicycle was struck by a car in Cranbourne last week.
Casey Traffic Management Unit Acting Sergeant Allen Inderwisch said the incident occurred along Majestic Boulevard on Tuesday 26 January about 12.50pm.
According to Acting Sgt Inderwisch, the girl was not wearing a helmet and had ridden across the road in front of a car. She was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital by ambulance for observation.
Acting Sgt Inderwisch said the girl was lucky she didn’t receive serious injuries.
“Parents need to ensure that their children are fitted with helmets and are taught how to safely cross the road,” he said.
