NO movement on the ladder this week in round 10 of the Dandenong and District Cricket Association Turf matches.
Springvale South, Doveton, Buckley Ridges and North Dandenong are all fighting it out for a fourth place finals position on 30 points.
@BT Sub Sport News:Doveton v Hallam Kalora Park
Doveton won the toss at Robinson Reserve and sent Hallam Kalora Park in to bat where they made a modest 147 from 65 overs. An lbw for Leigh Booth left Hallam 2/44 before captain Cory Booth (74) stepped in to leave the team 7/145. The wickets fell quickly after Booth with Hawley and Piston falling within two runs. Doveton will begin with 0/25 this weekend after 15 overs with openers Bradley Downe and Ryan Pearson facing the Hallam Kalora Park attack.
@BT Sub Sport News:Coomoora v Mordialloc
Cellar-dwellers Coomoora will face a target of 239 next week, set by a big hitting Mordialloc team in under 79 overs. Justin Woodman (3/24) did his best to keep the run count down and Ford proved he is a worthy addition to the team by taking three catches. Woodman and Bilal Zeitoune spent one over opening the bat for Coomoora before the end of play. Coomoora will pick up with 0/1 this weekend.
@BT Sub Sport News:Buckley Ridges v North Dandenong
North Dandenong will face a formidable target of 346 this weekend when they meet Buckley Ridges for a second day at Park Oval. A slow start saw Buckley Ridges reach 2/10 before Daniel Watson (111) stepped in to leave the team at a more respectable 4/207 before he was bowled by Shane Clark (1/44). Paul Franks (57) and Ben Watson (51) added to the big score.
@BT Sub Sport News:Keysborough v Parkfield
Parkfield set a modest 151 from 71 overs at Keysborough reserve last weekend. With his side 3/18, Parkfield captain Dale Harris (31) did his best to get some runs on the board. In the field, Trent Ward and wicket-keeper Stephen Hennigan kept the pressure on taking two catches each. Keysborough’s start with the bat wasn’t much better, ending the day on 3/15 after nine overs after opener Jonathan Mohamed went out for a duck.
@BT Sub Sport News:Narre Warren v Berwick
The Magpies and the Bears will have to wait it out until next week before they can begin play on the Sweeney Reserve pitch. The wintery conditions that had groundskeepers running to protect their turfs played havoc at Sweeney Reserve and the match will have to be played as a one-dayer next week.
@BT Sub Sport News:St Mary’s v Springvale South
St Mary’s and Springvale South shared a similar fate to Narre Warren and Berwick when their match at Carroll Reserve was washed out due to unplayable conditions that had been caused by wet conditions the night before.
Turf Two
@BT Sub Sport News:Maranatha Methodist v Heinz
South District
HSD has not given up hope of playing in finals this year but has some work to do if they wish to catch Maranatha’s day one score of 163 at Strathaird Reserve. Maranatha fell to 4/14 due to aggressive bowling by James Van Elewoud (3/25) and Paul Stockdale (5/63) but steadying scores by Maranatha’s lower order, including a 47 by youngster Brendan Wilson, moved Maranatha into a strong position. HSD are 2/12 in reply needing a win to pass Lyndale in fourth position.
@BT Sub Sport News:Hampton Park v Buckley Ridges
Mathematically, Hampton Park need two outright victories in the remaining two matches to make finals but realistically they would be content with their day one performance against the Ridges at Booth Reserve. Being sent into bat on a damp ground, Hampton Park went to work early with Danny Cortese (51) and Jonathon Rudge (47) providing the bulk of the Hampton Park total of 186
@BT Sub Sport News:Berwick v Southern Pirates
Needing at least one win in the next two games to avoid relegation, Berwick must look towards the final round after they gave up first innings points against the Pirates at Arch Brown Reserve. Pirates’ bowlers Leigh Taylor (4/21) and Peter Atkinson (4/23) restricted Berwick to a dismal 84 of 44 overs and with a 43 by Southern Pirates opener Shane Rumage, the Pirates were able to cruise past the total and at the end of day’s play are 3/127.
@BT Sub Sport News:Springvale South v Fountain Gate
Although this match means nothing come finals time, Fountain Gate nevertheless put on a cracking batting display at Alex Nelson Reserve. The visitors smashed 325 in their 80 overs with Stephen White (116) and Andrew Gleave (73) the best of the show. Springvale South’s Gavin Fewkes took six wickets but also gave up 118 runs in doing so.
@BT Sub Sport News:Cranbourne v Lyndale
Lyndale will now look to their one-dayer next week against Cranbourne after the DDCA said Casey Fields was not fit to play on after wet conditions the night before soaked the ground. Lyndale need a win to avoid dropping out of the top four while Cranbourne can enter the top two with a win at home.
