A WOMAN was trapped for an hour after a two-car collision on the South Gippsland Freeway in Hallam last week.
Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Sergeant Pat McGavigan said the incident occurred at 7.50am on Wednesday 3 February, 50 metres north of the Princes Highway.
Intensive care paramedics and advanced life support paramedics from Dandenong arrived at the scene within nine minutes.
Intensive care paramedic Tim Jobling said there was extensive damage to the cars.
“It was a nose to tail collision with the front car coming to rest on the bonnet of the other vehicle,” Mr Jobling said.
“While rescue crews worked to free the woman we put a drip in her arm and gave her some pain relief as well as pain relief through a nasal inhaler. A neck brace was also fitted given the potential for spinal injuries.”
The 55-year-old woman from Lynbrook, driving a 2008 Holden Barina, suffered fractures to her arms, right ankle and possibly some ribs and was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.
The other driver, a 52-year-old Bunyip man, suffered cuts and bruising to the head and was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
Anyone with information is urged to call Leading Senior Constable John Diamond at the Casey TMU on 5991 0675.
