CLEAN Up Australia Day is just around the corner, and Hampton Park residents are encouraged to do their bit for the local environment.
The Friends of the River Gum Creek Reserve have invited residents to take part in the annual event and contribute to a cleaner and healthier reserve. This year’s event will be held on Sunday 7 March.
Warren Calder, member of The Friends of the River Gum Creek Reserve, said about 40 garbage bags of rubbish were collected each year on Clean Up Australia Day. Mr Calder said it was an important annual event.
“If we didn’t do it every year, imagine what it would be like if we left it for five years,” he said.
This year is the 20th anniversary of Clean Up Australia Day, and Mr Calder said it was about the 10th year the event had been held at the reserve.
The Hampton Park Progress Association will provide a sausage sizzle after the event for all participants.
“The more the merrier,” Mr Calder said.
Those interested can meet at the reserve in Hampton Park on Coral Drive, opposite Edeys Run, at 10am.
