AN ENDEAVOUR Hills school has been selected to take part in a pilot program aimed at reducing students’ exposure to cyber risks such as cyber bullying and sexual predation.
Chalcot Lodge Primary School is taking part in the ‘eSmart Schools’ national pilot program, which is an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
The school will run a range of cyber safety activities throughout the year as they work towards becoming one of the first eSmart accredited schools in Australia.
Principal Kay Schlanger said the school used technology as part of their student learning.
“While we embrace the benefits of technology, it is important that we never ignore the risks,” she said.
“Children are becoming internet savvy at a younger age and it is vital that we educate them on how to stay safe online and what to do if they have a problem.”
As part of the initiative, Chalcot Lodge Primary School is hosting a ‘ThinkUKnow’ cyber safety session on Thursday 4 March at 7pm.
Presented by the Australian Federal Police and Microsoft Australia, the free session covers topics such as online grooming, cyber bullying, inappropriate content and e-security.
A light supper will be provided on the night. For details, call Chalcot Lodge Primary School on 9700 4455.
