A LYSTERFIELD man’s car has been written off after hail the size of golf balls punched holes through the windscreen during last Saturday’s storm.
Kosta Koutros said he was shattered his Holden Commode VL had about 100 dints on the bonnet after wild weather lashed his town.
The 19-year-old had transferred the car into his name that morning.
Mr Koutros said he thought a tornado had been heading for Lysterfield.
“I looked outside and it was pitch black,” he said.
“There were large gusts of winds and then the hail started coming down. I bolted inside the house.”
Ms Koutros said several windows in his home were also broken during the wet and wild weather.
“It was a scary time. It was like people were throwing rocks at our house,” he said,
Narre Warren SES controller Tim Howell said Lysterfield was one of the worst hit areas in the state, with volunteers expected to continue cleaning up over the weekend.
An SES spokeswoman said the Knox SES unit received 500 calls about damage in Lysterfield.
“About 70 per cent of reports were for building damage and the rest were for flooding and trees down,” she said.
South Australian and New South Wales volunteers have also been called in to help with the clean up.
Mr Koutros said there was a lot of debris and leaves on Lysterfield’s roads.
