Hot-cross delight for kids

By Kelly Yates
The Bakers Delight bakery will join others across the State by donating $1 from every six-pack of Hot Cross Buns sold on ‘Bundraiser Day’, Saturday, 20 March.
Staff at the bakery are set to dress up as doctors on the day as they sell hot cross buns and raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital, says franchisee Greg Dowling.
The money collected on the day will go towards purchasing medical equipment such as a new state-of-the art device called a Harmonic Scalpel, which makes it possible to safely and quickly perform previously complicated operations through key-hole surgery.
Good Friday Appeal CEO Christine Unsworth said the Royal Children’s Hospital currently had to hire the equipment for a high fee on a patient-by-patient basis.
“The Good Friday Appeal is one of the biggest fundraising initiatives in Victoria and it brings together people from the community to help raise money for our hospital,” she said.
Baker’s Delight has been baking Hot Cross Buns fresh each day over Easter for the past 30 years.
Mr Dowling said Easter was the busiest time for his store.
“Last year on ‘Bundrasier Day’ we sold a truck load of hot cross buns,” he said.
“We sold 200 six packs and this year we’re hoping to sell 300.”
