No tears on first day

THERE were no tears at Thomas Mitchell Primary School in Endeavour Hills on Tuesday as the preps started the first day of their education.
School principal John Hurley said the preps had an “absolute ball” with both students and parents containing their emotions for the momentous occasion.
“It went fantastic,” Mr Hurley said.
“There was an enormous amount of parents there to see the preps settle in.
“The weather was on our side too, which was good.”
Mr Hurley said the children spent the morning doing activities and went home at 1pm.
“They were very excited to be here,” he said.
“Some wanted to come in at 7am but they were told that was too early.”
Activities during the day included literacy, developmental plays, playing with PlayDoh, colouring in, and a tour of the school on which the preps were given clues to find each of the rooms.
“The kids loved that,” Mr Hurley said. “They had to guess where they would be going next.”
Four classes of 96 preps joined the school this year, with five teachers between them.
