SOCCER players from the Endeavour Sporting Club will continue kicking goals after scoring a $2500 grant to buy new uniforms and training equipment.
Club president Charles Geriesi said he was thrilled with the funding announcement.
“Our club has grown from five teams last year to seven teams this year,” he said.
“The club is continuing to expand as of the popularity of the sport in Casey.”
Mr Geriesi said he is forced to turn away players because of a lack of space and resources.
“Last week, I had three guys come down form Oakleigh but I just don’t have space for them,” he said.
“I felt really sorry turning them away.”
The soccer season kicked off for the Endeavour Sporting Club on 11 April for the seniors and 18 April for the juniors.
The club, with its 629 members and players, is one of almost 500 clubs and active recreation organisations across the state to receive the funding, which is part of VicHealth’s 2010 Active Club program.
The Active Club initiative focuses on assisting people who face the greatest barriers to participation in sports, including people with disabilities, new migrants and those living in low socio-economic communities.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said the grants will help local clubs continue their work with promoting an active and energised lifestyle in our local community.
