LYNBROOK Junior Football Club will play its first games in the Dandenong and District Junior Football League on Sunday as 4200 junior players battle it out in the first round of the 2010 season.
DDJFL general manager Shaun Connell said the league experienced its biggest influx in players since 2006 this year with 22 clubs and 200 teams competing.
“We are really looking forward to an exciting year after a number of changes that will make sure the competition runs smoothly in 2010,” Connell said.
“The success of the league is a result of the hard work from all the clubs as well as the success of the Auskick program. Interest in the game has never been stronger.”
“We have also secured Casey Fields for the grand finals and are expecting more growth next year after working closely with local councils to make sure the sport is being looked after properly.”
The league also boosted the number of umpires available by taking on the management and improving training for umpires during the off season.
DDJFL radio returned to Casey Radio last week and will include interviews with AFL and local players throughout the season.
The competition will kick off with a youth girls game between Cranbourne and Noble Park at Casey Fields on Saturday morning. The under-9s to under-16s competition will commence on Sunday.
