Clyde Road cash

By Melissa Meehan
THE STATE Government has committed $25.6 million from the 2010 State Budget for the duplication of Clyde Road between Kangan Drive and High Street in Berwick.
Premier John Brumby made the announcement yesterday as cars were backed up to High Street from the train crossing.
“This $25.6 million funding will go towards the duplication of Clyde Road, which will help ease traffic congestion through the region, enhance safety and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists along this busy north-south link,” Mr Brumby said.
“The local community and their determined local members of parliament have campaigned vigorously for this duplication – we’ve heard their concerns and look forward to work starting on the important project.”
Planning and design work will start immediately on the $55.6 million project, which the Federal Government has also committed $30 million towards.
Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato and Narre South MP Judith Graley both welcomed the announcement and said the community would greatly benefit from the works.
