CFA plaque for op shop support

By Bridget Cook
NARRE Warren East Rural Fire Brigade presented a plaque to the Berwick Opportunity Shop to acknowledge their years of support.
Brigade president Ian Taylor presented the plaque to the shop president Laine Tandy.
Mr Taylor said the op shop had been a good friend of the brigade and many local residents had been involved with both organisations.
“The support was singly-handedly the most defining sponsorship in assuring the presence of CFA in the Narre Warren East community, both in the past and the immediate future,” he said. “We are without retail businesses in our area and the role of CFA is not only integral in life and property protection but also provides a social meeting point for many of our residents.”
He said the brigade was investigating the redevelopment of its station to cater for more volunteer firefighters and to bring the facility in line with present CFA standards.
Mrs Tandy said the role of volunteers in both organisations was important and highlighted the need for everyone who has time or resources to commit to worthwhile causes, including op shops and fire brigades.
