Two teens arrested after attempted carjacking

A 19-year-old Narre Warren North man and a 15-year-old Hastings boy were arrested on Thursday 4 January after an attempted carjacking and ramming a vehicle into a police car.

Officers spotted the stolen Toyota Hilux driving erratically on the Moorooduc Highway around 12:30 pm on Thursday 4 January.

After tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed, a male teen armed with a hammer ran from the car and attempted to break into another vehicle but was quickly detained.

The driver of the stolen Toyota remained inside and proceeded to ram a police car in an attempt to escape.

He proceeded to run from the scene but was arrested soon after.

Southern Metro Crime Squad detectives and Youth Gang Team members have since apprehended the suspects, who are currently assisting police with enquiries.

As for the Toyota, police believe that it had been stolen overnight in Frankston.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam/CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
