PRIMARY school students in Berwick and beyond are developing healthier eating habits thanks to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said a recent study of the project by the University of Melbourne and Deakin University found that more than 70 per cent of participating children said they enjoyed cooking, compared with only half at non-participating schools.
The study also identified a transfer of healthy eating habits to children’s homes.
Ms Graley welcomed the findings.
“I just love the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden at Berwick Fields Primary School,” she said
“The results of the survey show that it is a success, which is great news for Berwick families. The kids are going to grow healthier and happier. It’s great to see children planting, cooking and eating healthy, wholesome food.”
The kitchen garden project with celebrated chef Stephanie Alexander is part of the State Government’s Go For Your Life initiative, which promotes healthier lifestyles through greater physical activity and healthy eating.
