PHOTOGRAPHY teacher David Chan and his talented happy-snapping students are inviting the community to their upcoming exhibition.
The Chan Clan Photo Exhibition, a showcase of work by Mr Chan’s students at the Narre Community Learning Centre, will open at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick on Friday 25 June.
The photo exhibition will run until 1 August.
Mr Chan, a professional photographer, has been teaching his craft to up and coming photographers for the past 26 years.
For Mr Chan, teaching people how to use a camera is the most important lesson.
“I’m very excited because I like to pass on my knowledge to those who wish to learn,” he said.
Mr Chan has been nominated for the Narre Community Learning Centre’s tutor of the year award several times.
He said the new exhibition would feature works from 25 of his students, who are aged from 10 years to over 70.
“The photographs range from daytime shots, to birds and people. They are all of a very high standard,” Mr Chan said.
Harkaway resident Carolyn Collins started classes with Mr Chan in February last year.
“I started the classes because I needed a hobby. I knew nothing about SLR cameras,” Ms Collins said.
“I saw his advert in the paper and decided to give it a go.”
Ms Collins said photography was now a huge part of her life.
“He teaches people what they need to know about taking good photos.”
Ms Collins likes taking landscape panorama shots.
“I’ll have five or six of my photos on display at the exhibition,” she said.
“It’s nice to have your work displayed. It takes a lot of hard work to get it ready.”
This will be the second time Ms Collins has displayed her work in the annual Chan Clan exhibition.
The photographs in the show are all for sale, and opening night, which kicks off at 7pm, will feature a raffle with proceeds going to the Old Cheese Factory.
Mr Chan is hoping to raise $1000 for the Old Cheese Factory.
