SE Water encouraging grant applications

South East Water is calling for community groups to apply for their Community Grants program, with up to $10,000 available to help local groups.

The program will be closing on Friday 12 April at 5 pm, with director Lara Olsen saying that the organisation was looking forward to supporting a variety of projects that help make local communities better places to live.

“If your community group is within our service area and needs support for a project, I encourage you to apply before 12 April for our Community Grants program,” Ms Olsen said.

Up to $10,000 is available to help local groups make community projects possible, with applications available for community organisations within the SE Water service area for projects focused on helping people learn about water and how to use it effectively.

This also applies to community groups that support vulnerable community members, make the environment healthier and help people be more active and connected.

Nourish DBC (Dandenong Baptist Church) was a 2023 recipient of the community grant, with Director Naomi Paterson saying that “during the cost-of-living crisis, we’re seeing more local people needing support each week, including many families”.

Nourish DBC provides opportunities for migrants and asylum seekers in Greater Dandenong to learn new skills and create pathways to employment.

“The grant has helped us to equip Nourish DBC with updated kitchen facilities to serve nutritious, hearty meals to many local community members in need,” Ms Paterson said.

Another recipient of the 2023 grant was the RSPCA in Pearcedale, with the branch installing two 5000-gallon rainwater tanks to manage stormwater runoff at the animal shelter.

Travis Comello, facilities and infrastructure manager said that “The project has helped us to effectively manage stormwater and use water at our Pearcedale site, helping to protect local wildlife and ecosystems while building a more sustainable animal welfare service”.

The community grant is in its fifth year, with the program granting over $320,000 to 66 community groups across Melbourne’s southeast.
