GET rich quick schemes and online fraud are some of the top five scams to hit Narre Warren South over the past year.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said Casey residents needed to be aware of the scams in a effort to protect them from being conned out of hard-earned money.
Ms Graley said scams were designed to trick people into giving away money or personal information.
Some of the other scams reported in Casey include unauthorised advertising, computer predictions, software and investment and financial scams.
“There are many different types of scam and con artists can try and contact you by mail, email, telephone, over the internet and door-to-door. Anyone can be scammed,” Ms Graley said.
“Scammers are constantly thinking up new ways to reinvent old scams to ensure their dodgy offers appear official and legitimate. But don’t be fooled. Always remember, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
Ms Graley said door-to-door scams were also common in Narre Warren South. To report scams, visit www.consumer.vic.gov.au or call 1300 558 181.
