NARRE WARREN junior football club is moving forward.
Not through more players. Not through a brand new stadium.
But through meticulous planning.
The club has been chosen by the Dandenong District Junior Football League to undergo a club planning pilot program, which has been fully funded by the AFL, and league president Shaun Connell said Narre Warren junior football club seemed like a prime candidate.
“We understood from a league point of view that they had had difficulties in the past, that they were a new committee wanting to move forward,” he said.
“The reality is we could have chosen a handful of other clubs but at the end of the day there was a real opportunity to assist one of our clubs that is in the centre of our competition, so we need to make sure we are able to provide good footballing structures for players to go to.”
The pilot will consist of five sessions that aims to leave the club with an annual strategic plan to follow and hopefully set the club up for years to come.
Narre Warren has just completed its second session and Joyce Bonicelli, the club’s secretary said they want to change its current environment and turn it into a family oriented club – one that kids will want to come to.
“We can definitely benefit from the pilot to help our structure and to help us move forward along with taking a firmer stance on people doing the wrong things,” she said.
“Some parents decide that they want to have a drink while the kids are training, that’s not allowed.
“It’s not why the club is there. In the past they may have able to do that, but we don’t want that any more.”
