Calisthenics for kids

CASEY kids can combine their love of sport with a creative flair this weekend at a special calisthenics clinic in Berwick.
As a lead-up to next month’s Commonwealth Games, the clinic will offer children the chance to have fun and learn more about the sport of calisthenics.
A series of clinics, ranging from one to five days, will run over the coming months with at least 2000 Victorian children taking part in the initiative, supported by the State Government, Calisthenics Victoria, and the Commonwealth Games.
The clinics are part of Up and Running — the Victorian Governments strategy for using the Games to create healthier, more active communities across Victoria and the Commonwealth.
Executive officer of Calisthenics Victoria, Wayne Jones, said: “Calisthenics is one of the fastest-growing artistic sports and children of all ages thrive on the variety and challenges it offers.
“As a combination of controlled exercises and gymnastics, singing, simplified ballet, marching, folk and modern dance, calisthenics combines the best aspects of sport and art.”
Come and Try days are free of charge at 60 venues across Victoria during January and February.
The Berwick Masonic Hall is located at 106 High Street, Berwick, and the session runs from 9am to 12noon.
