A 20-YEAR-OLD woman was punched in the face during an assault outside Westfield Fountain Gate in Narre Warren on Monday 21 May.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault, which happened about 9.45pm in the eastern car park, near the entrance to Westpac bank and Kmart.
Police said after the woman parked her car and got out, she reached into her car to get her handbag.
A man then grabbed her around the neck from behind then pushed her up against the car.
The offender then attempted to punch the victim in the face but missed, and as the victim stepped back she hit her head on her car. He then punched her again, striking the right side of her face near her eye.
The victim said she heard another male laughing in the background while she was being assaulted.
Both men then ran off.
Police said the offender was of Caucasian appearance, with brown hair and wearing a dark top and denim jeans.
Nothing was damaged or stolen from the victim.
