Federation University is awarding more than $859,000 worth of scholarships across its campuses, with a record number of 254 students to have benefitted in 2024 alone.
The Berwick campus has seen 11 scholarships awarded this year, which includes student Tiana Mawer’s Foundation Commencing Scholarship, tying in with her Bachelor of Community and Human Services degree.
“Since I was younger I always envisioned myself helping others that are more vulnerable,” Ms Mawer said.
“I’m finding the course really interesting, and I just love it – it’s teaching me a lot.”
Fed Uni’s vice-chancellor and president, professor Duncan Bentley said that this was made possible through the “generosity of [their] donors”.
“We are so delighted to be able to again award a record number thanks to these partnerships.”
Other scholarships that were awarded this year included the Narre Warren South Bendigo Bank Scholarship, which is catered to higher education domestic, undergraduate or postgraduate students in their first year at Berwick campus.
Another is the Philip Chui East Asia Scholarship, available for two Chinese National students undertaking studies also at the Berwick campus.
“Scholarships help to ease the pressure of financial hardship for students, providing them with the opportunity to participate fully in their studies and fulfil their aspirations,” Mr Bentley said.
First awarded in 2017, Staff Commencing Scholarships, both domestic and international and fully funded by staff were also awarded; valued at $7000 per scholarship, it was available at Berwick, Ballarat, Gippsland, and Wimmera campuses and online.
