THE Australian Greens are kick-starting their candidates’ campaigns for the federal seats of Holt and La Trobe with a fundraiser this weekend.
Frank Di Mascolo is the Greens candidate for Holt, while Jim Reiher will battle it out as the Greens candidate for La Trobe in the 21 August federal election.
Mr Reiher has been living in the City of Casey for 15 years.
Since finishing high school he has been an ambulance officer, a high school teacher and a lecturer.
He now works as a training co-ordinator for a charity/welfare organisation in Dandenong. The 54-year-old’s driving passions are social justice and the environment.
“I want to see more done in building a nation that draws its energy from renewable sources,” he said. “I am committed to fighting poverty, and working for solutions to problems faced by indigenous Australians that empower and give dignity to people. Our government should be working to protect our old growth forests and researching sustainable ways to secure our water future.”
Mr Reiher also has specific goals for the electorate.
“Here in La Trobe, I want to see more government support to improve public transport, as well as and feed-in tariffs and rebates for solar hot water and solar power,” he said. Mr Di Mascolo says he is standing in the upcoming election because he believes the Greens are the only party committed to a sustainable economy.
He grew up on a small farm in Keysborough, completed his Year 12 at Noble Park High School and studied at Monash University. Mr Di Mascolo is a CPA-qualified accountant and has worked for everything from two of the largest multi-national consulting firms to small accounting operations.
The fundraising event will be held on Saturday 7 August at the Doveton Tennis Club at 6.30pm.
For details about the fundraiser and campaign launch, call Lynette Keleher on 0425 867 079.

He believes the Greens are looking to the long term to provide the best possible outcome for the community and future generations.
