SHERIFF’S officers teamed up with police from Endeavour Hills last week for an operation in Doveton.
The officers collected more than $135,000 in outstanding fines from 24 people as they set up along Power Road on Thursday 2 September.
The Department of Justice said the operation used Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to electronically verify the number of warrants belonging to the fine defaulters.
“The technology is now being used across Victoria to help identify and target fine defaulters,” it said.
Sheriff’s officers action warrants, both civil and criminal, and enforce sanctions received from all Victorian and interstate courts.
There are about 170 sheriff’s officers in Victoria.
Across the state the most common offences for which people have not paid fines are over tolls, parking, driving and public transport.
