Call for court

By Melissa Meehan
GROWING numbers at Narre Warren Football Netball Club has prompted a call for another netball court at Kalora Park Reserve.
The need for more courts at the club’s home ground was highlighted by councillor Shar Balmes at the council meeting on 20 July 2010 and a report was tabled at the council this month.
The report, completed by council officer Richard Armon, recommended that a second court be built.
The club has 80 netball members and fields seven football teams in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.
“Based on club membership and the future direction of the MPNFL, an additional court is in line with the council’s strategic direction,” the report said.
Additionally the MPFNL has stated that the demand to provide extra netball teams in the area is increasing as the urban growth continues.
The club is already turning away interested players due to the lack of court space.
The report found that the provision of the first netball court at a district level recreation reserve should be provided by council, and the cost of the second would be shared between the club and council.
The club will apply for funding to develop the netball facilities to allow for two netball courts in partnership with the council.
Council officers will work with the club to prepare a concept design and cost estimate, and prepare an application for funding for Minor Captial Works Funding round 2011/2012.
