CASEY Labor MPs are boasting of a successful health track record and promise there is more to come.
While the Liberal Party has not yet announced specific funding for health projects in Casey, candidates said they were committed to improving services in the south-east.
Labor MPs Judith Graley, Luke Donnellan and Jude Perera said there was a long list of achievements in Casey.
“We built Casey Hospital and have continued to boost health services.
“Recently we opened the new $5.2 million Special Care Nursery, allowing for babies with extra needs to be closer to home,” Ms Graley said.
“And as part of the historic health agreement between the Brumby and Gillard Labor governments, $22.2 million is being invested to deliver 30 sub-acute beds at Casey Hospital.”
Mr Donnellan said that if re-elected the Labor Party would invest $250 million to expand the Monash Children’s Centre and build a new ambulance station for Endeavour Hills.
Casey Council will write to the Health Minister and Shadow Health Minister requesting a demographic review of Cranbourne to determine if a new hospital is needed in the town.
But Mr Perera said the Cranbourne area was already well serviced by Casey Hospital, Frankston Hospital, Dandenong Hospital and the Monash Medical Centre.
Liberal candidate for Cranbourne Geoff Ablett said he would work with a future Coalition Government and local councils to discuss the possibility of a hospital in Cranbourne.
Liberal candidate for Narre Warren North Michelle Frazer said, if elected, the Coalition would provide funding for a number of services including additional ambulance paramedics, $48 million to employ more doctors, nurses, diagnostic and allied health professionals and a $20 million Outpatient Improvement Fund to assist hospital outpatient clinics to treat more patients in a timely manner.
Greens candidate for Narre Warren North Michael Schilling said transport to and from healthcare facilities was a key issue.
He said, if elected, the Greens would also focus on preventative health measures.
