Three caught in net

A HALLAM man will face court after allegedly being nabbed with a massive haul of fish and illegal nets.
The 37-year-old is one of three men to be charged for using commercial fishing equipment without authority in waters near Carrum.
Senior fisheries officer Dave Green said the men showed a blatant disregard for the marine environment.
“Nets such as the one used on Monday night are capable of catching everything from the sea floor to the surface, with no regard to size limits,” Mr Green said.
A total of 832 fish were seized, 709 were undersize and none could be returned to the water.
The Hallam man was found with 219 fish in a nylon bag.
The fish seized included black bream, Australian salmon, yellow eye mullet, garfish and flounder.
Fisheries officers caught the men in two cars on the Nepean Highway in Carrum and Edithvale.
They said the second car contained 613 fish and a 50-metre seine net.
The three men will be charged on summons with using commercial fishing equipment without authority.
The maximum penalty for the offence includes fines of up to $10,000 and six months jail.
