Trainers vie for Cup honours

CHAMPION local trainers and greyhound racing rivals Darren McDonald and Jason Thompson will be eyeing a win in tonight’s Adelaide Cup Group One final at Angle Park.
From the field of 10, looking to claim race eight’s $96,000 cherry, six Victorians will line up along the boxes including McDonald who will run two dogs in the final – Perfect Fancy and Octane Show – while Thompson will be pinning his hopes on his pup Penthouse.
Bookmakers have two-year old Perfect Fancy an “easy” favourite, firming at $3.80 in an open field.
It ran third to Octane Show in the Hobart 1000 final and then second to Kilty Lad in the Silver Chief.
McDonald-trained Octane Show – which has 31 wins from 70 starts – won the Ipswich Cup, then ran a second place in the Group One Brisbane Cup before winning the Hobart 1000.
The three-year old finished second in his semi-final to top-class sprinter Dark Duo and has box six for the final.
As for Thompson – who won back-to-back Adelaide Cups in 2008/09 – Penthouse ran a very impressive semi-final, recording a fast 29.76 seconds and the Victorian trainer boasts three previous wins at Angle Park.
With a record of 13 wins from 38 starts, Penthouse will be looking for a strong showing from box seven.
