Bunjil Place lights up ahead of Christmas

It’s time to dig out the decorations, tack up the tinsel and warm up the vocal chords because Christmas is just around the corner and the City of Casey has kicked off its celebrations.

Crowds flocked to Bunjil Place on Saturday evening to witness the lighting of the giant Christmas tree and nativity scene.

The Bunjil Place Plaza was buzzing with the Christmas Makers Market, live entertainment and food trucks also keeping guests entertained.

City of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon said it was fantastic to see so many community members turn out to celebrate Christmas and make the most of the local entertainment.

“It’s wonderful to see so many people from different cultures and backgrounds come together to watch as council lights up its beautiful Christmas tree, and celebrates its nativity scene that we’re lucky enough to have again this year,” she said.

“One of the highlights for me during this time of year is seeing everyone come together, and having a facility such as Bunjil Place allows us to have a central place for our community to share in the festive joy.

“It is also important to remember the true meaning of Christmas during this time, and remember to be conscious of those who don’t have as much to celebrate at this time of year.”

There will be an array of programs and activities happening at Bunjil Place throughout the Christmas period, including Festive Flicks on the big screen such as White Christmas and Home Alone, as well as Christmas craft for the kids.

Santa’s Little Helpers will also pay a visit to Bunjil Place and spread the joy across three Fridays in December.

Tis’ the Season at the Old Cheese Factory, Berwick too, so head along from Friday 14 December until Sunday 16 December between 5.30pm and 9pm to jingle through Santa’s Workshop, Gingerbread House and Toy Shop, creating decorations as you go.

You can also wander through the North Pole while enjoying some jolly entertainment.

Additionally, council is supporting a range of Christmas Carol events being put on by local community groups and organisations across Casey, including:

• Narre North Carols, A’Beckett Road Reserve, Narre Warren North, Saturday 8 December

• Carols by Twilight, Max Pawsey Reserve, Narre Warren, Monday 24 December

• Hampton Park Carols by Candlelight, Cairns Road Reserve, Hampton Park, Friday 14 December

• Christmas on the Foreshore, Tooradin Foreshore, Friday 14 December

• Berwick Carols, Edwin Flack Reserve, Berwick, Saturday 15 December
