Caarels grabs five before rain

NARRE Warren’s turf matches were washed out soon after the start of play on Saturday, but ore play was possible in junior and some senior matting games. In A grade Craig Caarels wrecked Springvale South’s innings with five wickets.

Narre Warren hosted Springvale South, which won the toss and elected to bat. Only 19 overs were possible until the rain came but the visitors finished 6/40. Craig Caarels was the pick of the bowlers with 5/17 and Matt Gordon snared the remaining wicket.

Narre Warren lost the toss and was asked to bowl first. When rain came, Berwick was 2/38 and the rest of the day was called off.

Narre Warren won the toss and batted. The openers got a flying start with a partnership of 87, Dimitri Dimakopoulos making 39 and Regan Welburn 50 not, his first half-century in senior cricket. The run rate continued with James van Dam (10) and Ishan Ebrahimi (28 not out including two sixes), but the rest of the day was washed out when Narre Warren was 2/140 in the 19th over.

Narre Warren, playing Maranatha Methodist, won the toss and elected to bowl. Maranatha was all out for 144, Tom Connell bowling well and taking 4/35 and Matt Brew 2/6. Narre was 4/57 at the end of the day and Brew 20 not out.

Playing Maranatha Methodist, Narre Warren lost the toss and was asked to bowl. Narre struck early, having Maranatha 1/4 in the second over, and wickets fell steadily. Best bowlers were Jordan Muzzolini (1/9), Braden King (1/9), Mitchell Arter (2/20) and Jayden Arter (2/20). Under-11 player Jesse Muzzolini substituted in the field and took a fine catch. Narre Warren’s target this week is 167.

After losing the toss Lynbrook sent Narre Warren into bat and bowled well, soon having Narre in trouble at 3/7. Wickets fell steadily but, thanks to a fine innings by Nicholas Shirt (29 not out), Narre finished with a respectable total of 70. With 10 overs to bowl, Narre responded well in the field and Lynbrook was 3/19 at the close.

Narre played Berwick at Berwick and batted well. Dylan Morrison made 14, Mitchell Healey 16, Jarvis Murrian 19, Callum Spencer 24, Aidon Paton 26, Ryan Quirk 27, Kalen Murrian 27 and Zack Allen 33 and finished with a score of 312.

At Sweeney Reserve Narre played Doveton, which won the toss and batted. Narre restricted Doveton to 79 runs from 20 overs. Best of the bowlers were Travis Johnston (2/6), Michael Thomson (1/5) and Hayden Stagg (1/6). Narre Warren then made 85 from its 20 overs. Best of the bats were Jack King (eight), Paul Moreland (nine), Hayden McHugh (12) and Dhakshitha Gamawalawwe (10) in an excellent team effort.
