DOVETON in round seven had its first visit to Casey Fields and conquered, running over Cranbourne after quarter-time.

The Doves travelled to Casey Fields for the first time and didn’t let supporters down, showing their class with a 40-point win over Cranbourne. The Doves started poorly when an early sendoff reduced them to 17 men and allowed Cranbourne to take a 10-point lead at quarter-time.
From then the Doves bounced back strongly and ran all over their opponents, kicking five goals to one in the quarter and increasing their lead in the second half. Trevor Davies and Robbie Hughes were best afield with their physical presence around the ball and hard running. Brad Downe also played a fine game, doing what he does best at full back and keeping Holt goalless. Up forward Michael Henry was the most dangerous player, kicking five goals and helping the Doves seal the win with three of those coming in the last quarter.

The undefeated seconds faced the undefeated Cranbourne and came away with an impressive 44-point win. The Doves started strongly and had the game won by quarter-time. They took a five-goal lead and with the wind increasing this proved to be a good lead and the Doves protected it well playing hard and disciplined footy. Dave Welling continued his run of good form with a best-on-ground performance in the midfield and three goals. He was aided by Jason McCloy, who played a tough game and racked up more than 30 possessions. Up forward Pete Dye added to his tally of 30 goals with two and Nathan Batty also finished with two.

The young Doves had the chance to move to second spot with a win over Cranbourne but failed to going down by 16 points. The Doves got a steady start in what was a physical and fast match. They held a slender lead at quarter-time and had their chances to kick away in the second but through inaccurate kicking they struggled to put away their opponents.
In the second half the Doves ran out of legs and were outscored by seven goals to one. James Arundale played a good game up forward and in the ruck, giving a strong contest in both positions. Gavin Lees played his best game for the club, proving too strong for his opponent in defence.
