Hallam fire station opens its doors

By Melissa Meehan
HALLAM Fire Station has issued an invitation to the community to its open day on Sunday 7 October.
The Hallam CFA responds to more than 1800 incidents a year and is one of the busiest fire stations in the state. Incidents include motor vehicle accidents, grass fires in reserves and backyards, factory fires, chemical spills, car fires and house fires.
As part of the open day visitors will be taken on tours of the station and members of the brigade will perform rescue displays promoting fire safety.
There will be activities for the kids with the children’s smoke house and colouring-in activities running throughout the day.
A simulated HAZMAT display will also be performed at the station to illustrate the importance of service organisations such as the Victorian Police and State Emergency Service working together with the Country Fire Authority to protect the community.
A sausage sizzle will be provided. The open day will offer an opportunity for people to talk to firefighters first hand about concerns or ask questions.
Hallam Fire Station is at 12-12 Belgrave Hallam Road, Hallam. The open day will operate between 10am and 3pm.
